Traveling alone: it's not about courage, it's about desire

Have you ever thought about traveling alone? For some readers, this question may seem silly. But if you're a woman, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

With the recent case of traveler Juliana Marins - who explored the most beautiful places in the world on her own - I became even more aware of the power of being a woman on the move. Traveling on your own isn't just about courage: it's about desire, choice and freedom.

Traveling alone is still a political act. Not because every woman who packs her bags to experience the world wants to challenge some structure, but because, at some point, she does. Even today, many female travelers hear questions like "are you really going alone?" or "aren't you afraid?" when, in reality, they just want to experience a destination with freedom, in their own time and with autonomy.

Incidentally, I recently read the book "What if I died tomorrow?", by Felipa Fonseca Silva, which portrays the life of an 80-year-old woman who lives alone, without fear or apprehension of being who she is. It's not a book about travel, but about autonomy. And it made me think a lot about the coming and going of travelers. And it's impossible not to draw this parallel with so many women who today choose to live the world at their own pace.

One of the initiatives that reflects this progress is the "Elas Viajam" (They Travel) program, focused on creating safer, more welcoming and more structured experiences for women who want to explore the world, alone or in groups. A trend that is not a fad, but a response.

At Fauna, I've had the privilege of following this change closely. In recent seasons, itineraries such as Bárbara 's to Machu Picchu, Jéssica 's to Greece and Albania, and Rita's, who asked for a tailor-made itinerary to enjoy Madrid at her own pace, show that this profile of traveler is increasingly present. And prepared.

Here, curation goes beyond choosing hotels or attractions: it's about creating safe, well thought-out experiences with real freedom. What's at stake is not a "solo adventure", but the right to experience the world in the most authentic way possible.

If you also feel this call (or know someone who does), know that you can do it safely, with care and welcome.
