Curitiba: Why Brazil's greenest capital deserves to be on your bucket list

Curitiba is one of Brazil's most organized, sustainable and welcoming cities - and if you haven't put it on your bucket list yet, it might be time to think again. Known as the ecological capital of Brazil, it stands out for its parks, intelligent urban planning and commitment to the environment, but it also enchants with its cultural life, gastronomy and hospitality.

In 2022, Curitiba welcomed more than 7 million tourists - more than famous destinations like Foz do Iguaçu. And it's no coincidence. The city offers attractions for all traveler profiles: from museums with bold architecture such as MON (Oscar Niemeyer Museum) to sensory tours such as Jardim das Sensações, inside the Botanical Garden.

If you like music, art and local cuisine, the city delivers. If you value safety, wide sidewalks and efficient urban mobility, it also delivers. There are even Afrocentric tourist routes, such as the Black Line, which recalls black history and its contribution to the social construction of Curitiba.

An important highlight is the Ligga Arena, Athletico Paranaense's stadium. It is the only one in Latin America with a retractable roof and operates with a focus on sustainability, reusing more than 80% of its water and using part of its energy from renewable sources.

In addition to urban attractions, Curitiba serves as a starting point for exploring the coast and other destinations in Paraná: Morretes, Ilha do Mel, Antonina, Pico Paraná, Colombo and even combining the trip with Foz do Iguaçu.

Even though it's a capital city, Curitiba conveys the feeling of a city designed for living well - and this is perhaps its greatest asset as a destination. After all, as the author of the report said: "a city is only good to visit if it's good to live in first".
